His Untamed Desire, a Mills and Swoon Short Story of Romance and Desire #romance

His Untamed Desire, a Mills and Swoon Short Story #romance

The storm had driven them both to the same remote Scottish bothy.

Isabella Hart shoved the heavy wooden door open against the wind, rain streaming down her face and soaking through her coat. The fire was already lit. And standing before it, peeling a sodden black sweater over his head to bare a chest still as hard and unforgiving as the man himself, was Lucien Blackwood.

Three years. Three years since Venice. Three years since he had left her tangled in expensive sheets with nothing but a note and the taste of his name on her lips.

His ice-blue eyes lifted and locked on her. Something raw flickered there—recognition, hunger, and a pain he had never let her see before.

“Isabella.” Her name left his mouth like a confession. “Of all the places in the world… you walk back into mine.”

She shut the door harder than necessary, heart slamming against her ribs. “Don’t. Don’t look at me like that. You walked out, Lucien. No explanation. No goodbye. Just gone.”

He tossed the sweater aside and crossed the small room in three strides. Rain still clung to the dark hair at his nape. Up close she could smell the storm on his skin, and beneath it the familiar, devastating scent that had once ruined her for every other man.

“I left,” he said, voice low and rough, “because I was already half in love with you and it terrified the hell out of me. You were fire and freedom and I was a man who built empires by never needing anyone. Staying would have meant handing you the power to destroy me. So I ran.” His hand rose, hesitated, then cupped her wet cheek with unexpected tenderness. “I’ve regretted it every single day.”

The honesty in his voice cracked something open inside her. Tears pricked, unwanted. “You hurt me.”

“I know.” His thumb brushed the corner of her mouth. “Let me make it right. Or tell me to leave and I’ll walk back into that storm right now.”

She should have pushed him away. Instead her fingers curled into the damp fabric of his shirt. “Stay,” she whispered. “Just… stay.”

The kiss that followed was nothing like the polished, controlled passion of Venice. This one was hungry, apologetic, desperate. Lucien groaned into her mouth as if the taste of her after three long years hurt. He backed her toward the bed, peeling her soaked coat and sweater away with impatient hands, revealing skin that shivered under his touch.

“God, look at you,” he murmured against her throat, voice thick. “Still the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Still the only woman who ever made me feel human.”

Clothes fell in a careless trail. When he laid her down on the narrow bed, firelight gilded every hard plane of his body and every soft curve of hers. He settled between her thighs, bracing himself above her, and for a moment simply looked—really looked—as if memorising the woman who had haunted him.

“I need you,” he said roughly. “Not just this. All of you. The sharp tongue, the stubborn heart, the way you never let me hide. Tell me you feel it too.”

“I do.” Her hands slid up his back, nails scoring lightly. “I’ve never stopped.”

He kissed her again, deeper, while one hand drifted between them. Fingers stroked through her slick heat, circling, teasing, until she arched and gasped his name. When he finally pushed inside her in one slow, relentless thrust, they both stilled, foreheads pressed together, breathing the same air.

“Isabella—” His voice broke. “You feel like coming home.”

She wrapped her legs around his waist and pulled him deeper. “Then don’t leave this time.”

What followed was raw and unrestrained. Lucien moved with a fierce, almost reverent rhythm, hips rolling, driving into her again and again while his mouth found her breasts, her collarbone, the sensitive spot beneath her ear. Isabella met every thrust, nails digging into his shoulders, soft cries spilling free as pleasure coiled tighter. He whispered broken things against her skin—how he’d dreamed of this, how empty the years without her had been, how he would never again be foolish enough to let her go.

When she shattered, it was with his name on her lips and tears on her cheeks. Lucien followed seconds later, burying himself deep, a guttural groan torn from his chest as he spilled into her, holding her as if the storm outside might still try to tear them apart.

Afterward they lay tangled in the firelight, his larger body curved protectively around hers. Lucien traced idle patterns on the damp skin of her hip, voice quiet and unguarded.

“Marry me, Isabella. Not because I’m rich or because the world expects it. Marry me because I’m still terrified of how much I need you… and I’m done running from it. Write your books from every hotel I own. Fight with me. Love me. Stay.”

She turned in his arms, searching those blue eyes that no longer tried to hide. A slow, luminous smile curved her mouth.

“You’re still impossible,” she said softly. “And I’m still yours.”

Outside, the rain had stopped. Inside the bothy, two hearts that had once been too proud to break finally began to heal.
